The Northman reactions call it a brutal Viking epic

After The witch and The lighthouseit is safe to say that the audience has been eagerly awaiting the release of Robert Eggers’ The Norwegian. The action-packed epic has Alexander Skarsgård in the lead role as a young Viking prince on a quest to avenge his father’s murder. We still have a few weeks left, but the first reactions to The Norwegian has started leaking out on social media and we have gathered a few of them below. First out is our own Chris Bumbray, who called the film an absolute masterpiece.

In addition to Alexander Skarsgård, The Norwegian also starring Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Björk and Willem Dafoe. In addition to directing the film, Robert Eggers has also written the script together with the Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón.

Ralph Ineson, who also starred in Robert Eggers’ The witch and returns for The Norwegian, teased NME in March last year that he had seen some of what they shot and was blown away. “It’s a huge movie, said Ineson. “I saw a four minute montage of some of the things they had already shot and I was really impressed. The marriage between Rob Eggers’ imagination and Viking folklore … Jesus, man.“Ineson also had lots of praise for Alexander Skarsgård. “[There’s] a scene where he beats this guy in a fight; bends down and tears his throat out with his teeth, screams to the gods, and he’s got his shirt off – and you think, ‘My god, this is not a bodybuilder doing a scene, it’s like a proper serious actor!Exclaimed Ineson. “He has made himself look like some kind of monster for the role, the dedication is incredible. I think it’s going to be a bit of a masterpiece, to be honest.“It certainly sounds like Ineson’s reaction The Norwegian was entitled to the money. I can not wait to check it out for myself!

The Norwegian coming to the cinema April 22.
