Traveling by snail may not sound like the fastest way to get around, but it’s faster than walking … if you’re a tardigrad.

Eight-legged, engaging tubby tardigrader Near-microscopic organisms, also known as water bears or marsupials – can run on land snails to travel longer than they could on their own, new research shows. But while snail surfing helped tardigrades spread to new places, a coating of snails’ slimy slime often proved fatal to tardigrad riders.
