New offer could ruin Frontier-Spirit merger

JetBlue Airways, the New York-based airline known for its on-board TV selection, free Wi-Fi and trendy snacks, has made an unsolicited $ 3.6 billion bid to buy an unsolicited airline Spirit.

JetBlue said late Tuesday that the proposal is “superior” to the merger agreement between Spirit and Frontier announced in February and is the “most attractive option” for Spirit’s shareholders.

The offer could thwart Spirit and Frontier’s well-founded plans to create a low-cost airline that will be able to better compete with US, Delta, United and Southwest airlines.

JetBlue makes a similar pitch about a JetBlue-Spirit combination, saying it brings something extra to the table for Spirit passengers: its beloved perks and service.
