Melissa Rivers said her thoughts have changed in relation to adopting a child at the age of 54.

On Sunday, the TV host, who had previously expressed that she was ’80 percent there ‘in moving on to expand her family in her 50s, gave an update on where she was in the adoption process.

“A lot of people told me how incredibly difficult it would be for me to do,” Melissa told host David Yontef on the Behind The Velvet Rope podcast.

She continued: ‘I’m over 50. I’m a single … Yes, I’m sure I could make it work, but I’m really come to the conclusion that I’m not sure it’s would be reasonable for a child.

“You know, I’m not one hundred percent sure that would be fair.”

The Fashion Police star, however, went on to say that she had not completely ruled out the idea.

‘Am I completely out of the market? No, said Melissa.

‘But I do not want that, you know, people are like that, well, you could have special needs and they give them a wonderful life.

She added: ‘And I think about it, but I also think, is it really fair? Is that fair? That’s what happened. And everyone else, I was also told how difficult it would be for me to do ‘.

The New York native continued: ‘You have to check yourself and put someone else’s needs ahead of what you or someone else puts in front of what you want.

Melissa admitted that weighing the decision had taken an emotional toll on her.

‘Do I still want it? 100%. I think is the right thing to do. I’m not sure anymore. And believe me, I cried a lot at night with that realization. ‘

The Joy actress, who was born Melissa Warburg Rosenberg, is the only child of the late iconic comedian Joan Rivers and producer Edgar Rosenberg.

Last August, she said she was inclined to adopt a child, admitting that her mother Joan’s advice on picking up eggs in her 30s still keeps her awake at night.

During an interview on the Chanel In The City With Chanel Omari podcast, she explained that she has been thinking about giving a disadvantaged child a home “for a very long time”, and she now feels ready to become a mother again.

She revealed: ‘I am very close. I’ve been thinking about it for a very long time. I’ve been thinking about it for about six years now.

‘At certain times it feels like the right decision, at certain times it does not feel like the right decision. It’s obviously not something I take lightly. I would say I’m about 80 percent there. ‘

Melissa said there are a lot of factors that come into play in the decision, including whether it is reasonable for a child to have an older parent.

She explained: ‘What really stops me is, you know, would it be fair for the child to have, unfortunately, a little bit older parent?

‘Not that there’s anything wrong with that, because I’m definitely very active and, you know, a guest! There is a lot to think about, there are many very important things to think about. There are few things I still struggle with. “

Melissa also revealed that her mother Joan – who died in September 2014 at the age of 81 – had advised her to freeze her eggs many years ago so she could get pregnant as an older woman before it was too late.

She said, ‘I wish I had listened to my mother, who wanted me to freeze my eggs when I was in my 30s, and I thought,’ Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no!” Now I say, “I should have done it.” But that’s the way it must be. ‘

Melissa reiterated her plan to adopt, adding: ‘I’m very close to doing that, yes. There are just a few things that still keep me awake at night. ‘

Melissa had first revealed that she would have another child on the podcast Divorced Not Dead back in June.

She told host Caroline Stanbury at the time: ‘I would love to have another child. And I do not feel I need to be married to do that.

‘My girlfriends say,’ You’ve lost your mind. ‘ We are all in the place in our lives where our children all just come out. They’re laughing. They say, “Really? Do you want to go through the stress of even going to college again?” They say, “Do you really want to do this?”

Melissa reiterated that this is actually what she wants to do and ‘would definitely adopt’.
