“His story is that he had asked for my number and not everyone was sure, you know, ‘is she going through a divorce?’
In the six months that Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson have been an object, the world has gathered a lot of questions about how two seemingly unmarried people became the most talked about couple of the year.
Initially, people assumed that Kim and Pete’s romance blossomed when she was the host Saturday Night Live back in October last year.
During a (now iconic) sketch, Kim and Pete shared a kiss while dressed as Aladdin and Princess Jasmine, triggering an online frenzy.
Just weeks later, the couple were photographed together by hand on a roller coaster at Knott’s Berry Farm, prompting speculation that they were in fact lovers.
However, Kim has now revealed that she and Pete were actually linked together for the first time at the Met Gala – a whole month before SNL aired.
Sitting with Amanda Hirsch on Not skinny, but not thick podcast Kim said: “Well, I knew him [before SNL] and I saw him on the Met, ”before continuing to confirm that her SNL debut had given them some common foothold when they came to chat at the event.
“He knew I was the host SNL, but it was not announced yet and then he came to me and we talked about SNL,She said before revealing that he had offered her some “good advice” to go on stage.
When he was the gentleman he is, Pete suggested that he and Kim exchange numbers so he could be ready to give her advice prior to her host concert. Unfortunately for Kim, however, her outfit made the whole exchange extremely awkward.
If you forgot, Kim participated in the Met-covered top to toe in a black Balenciaga silhouette dress with gloves on. With her hands and face completely covered, Kim was unable to use her phone, causing an unpleasant misunderstanding as she and Pete tried to exchange numbers.
“He said, ‘Take my number if you need anything.'” And I was wearing gloves, and I could not get into my phone with the gloves on, and I thought, ‘Oh, I have gloves! -. ‘ And he was like, ‘Okay cool,’ and walked away, ”she recalled.
Kim added that despite the awkwardness, she hoped to turn the situation around, but it was too late.
“I would be like, ‘Oh, but take mine -‘, you know?” she added. “But then it was like that, no.”
But it turns out that this was actually not the first time that Pete had tried to get his fingers in Kim’s number. In fact, Kim later discovered that he had asked mutual friends for her phone number after hearing about her divorce from Kanye West prior to the Met Gala.
“His story is that he had asked around for my number and everyone was not sure, you know, ‘is she going through a divorce?’ and he just wanted to wait a bit, ”she said.
Kim went on to reveal that despite their chemistry on stage, she and Pete actually failed to connect backstage at. SNL during her rehearsal week because he refused to be filmed for Kardashians.
“We never have a connection or anything,” Kim said. “He was the one cast that did not show up to be filmed [for The Kardashians] and he was not there until that very day [the live show]. So I did not see him all week during the rehearsals. “
“That day he came and we did a dress rehearsal, and saw the real thing,” she said of their sketch and of course the kiss. “So the whole time I was practicing, it was with a stand-in.”
However, their first kiss turned out to be a true turning point.
“When we kissed, I thought ‘hmm’,” she remembered. “It was a stage kiss, but it was still like a little … rubbing, you know? It was nothing like a super-crazy feeling, I was just like ‘hmm’.”
Kim said she initially dismissed the spark, assuming she “maybe just was stupid” after not kissing anyone but Kanye for 10 years, but said she later decided her feelings were the right thing to do, and that it was time to take the plunge into dating.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Kim revealed that the very first photos of the couple together at Knott’s Berry Farm were actually leaked, despite taking extra precautions to protect their privacy in the early stages of their romance.
“My safety turned off the cameras [on the rides], we made sure that pictures would not be up, so it was quite shady that the one who sold all those pictures, ”she said. “I do not know who. I do not accuse anyone. But anyone.”
When Amanda asked if she thought a fan in the park had leaked the pictures, Kim theorized that it must have been an older person.
“Well no,” she clarified. “They had every single one, every turn. So it had to be someone who had access to the cameras on every single turn. I’m not sure who. No one wants to get upset.”
Kim also got into her divorce from Kanye West, revealing that the couple did not talk to each other for eight months after she filed for divorce last February.
“I think we went out and know,” she said of the immediate aftermath of the split. “We went about eight months without even talking to each other at the beginning of the divorce.”
She explained that they eventually developed a friendly relationship around the time she began publicly supporting Ye while promoting her 10th studio album, Donda.
“We started talking again and I went to Donda premiere. He still wanted to see the kids and stuff like that, but he and I spent a minute not talking to each other, ”she added.
And after the chaos in their public split, it seems Kim maintains a positive attitude toward being the parents of their four children.
“We love our kids, and we both love the time we spent together. We always want that and always appreciate it, and sometimes it just doesn’t work out for some reason. But no matter what, I always think about the positive times, ”she said before alluding to his harassing Instagram post earlier this year.
“Think about whether you were in a situation and you were in pain and that was your way of expressing yourself – I do not judge,” she said.
“We will always be cool and family, even if it does not look like that, it will always be like that,” Kim concluded. “He changed my life.”

Correction: Kim talked about bonding with Pete for the Met Gala. An earlier version of this post incorrectly said it was the first time they met.
