Just before Easter 2022, Pastor Franklin Graham, CEO and President of Samaritan’s Purse as well as CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, shared a compelling message to all people of all faiths this season.

He also spoke about the crisis in Ukraine, a country he has visited in the middle of the war, and said that prayer and help are needed not only for Ukrainians, but to help turn the heart of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a telephone interview with Fox News Digital this week, Graham said, “The problem we have in the world today is a sin problem. People have turned their backs on God.”

“In Ukraine, there are billboards that say, ‘Our only hope is God.’ We need such billboards in this country. ‘” – Franklin Graham told Fox News Digital

He added about America: “The only hope is God. It is the only hope. Only God can turn [our] nation around. “

“At Easter,” he said, “I pray that people will look to God, pray to Him, and ask Him for His help in everything we do — and that He will bless the nation.”

“But in order to do so,” said the leader of the faith, “we must repent, turn from our sins, and believe in the name of his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Graham also said: “A lot of people comment [to God] “They would agree, ‘Yes, we have to pray,’ but then they do not.”

“You always want some people like that,” he added. “But there are always some out there who know how to pray – and God hears those prayers.”

Despite their enormous challenges right now in the middle of the war, “the people you meet and talk to [in Ukraine] are strong. “

He remarked, “We do not have to pray 100%, but if only men and women of God would pray, God might use these prayers to turn this nation around … I hope our nation will wake up and see problems, we face, and realize that the only hope is God. “

He added: “In Ukraine, there are billboards that say, ‘Our only hope is God.’ We need such billboards in this country.”

Graham himself has been on the ground in Ukraine, which was attacked by Russian forces from February 24, 2022. Samaritan’s Purse has operated two hospitals and six medical clinics across Ukraine, Graham noted.

“This may be one of the toughest countries we’ve worked in,” he said of the crisis there right now. “It’s a big country, the size of Texas. And transportation [alone] is a problem. They have trains and trucks and so on, but fuel is a big issue. You can not always get fuel there.

“We give the food to these churches, and they distribute it to their congregations and to their communities.”

Teams of doctors and nurses with Samaritan’s Purse have treated over 5,000 patients so far, the organization noted. The group has also lifted more than 232 tonnes of emergency supplies to Ukraine on 8 separate air bridge missions.

Graham noted that his humanitarian group has worked with a network of over 3,200 churches to share medicine and food with the Ukrainian people. So far, Samaritan’s Purse has provided more than 165 tons of food to churches in Ukraine and Moldova that help people in need, his organization reported.

He said the eastern part of Ukraine is the most desperate right now. “This is where there is famine and great food shortages,” he said of the area hardest hit by the war.

But despite their enormous challenges in the midst of war, “the people you meet and talk to [in Ukraine] are strong, “said Pastor Graham.

“There is no doubt that there is despair and fear. But they are determined that they will fight for their country. And I just admire [Ukrainian] people for the position they take, “he added.” And their faith in God. It is clear that these people have a strong faith in God. “

He noted that there are over 5,000 churches in the country – “we work with over 3,200 of them” – and the churches in Ukraine are “full on Sundays. They are packed. Catholic, orthodox, evangelical, Pentecostal, Baptist – they are packed. The faith of the people is strong in Ukraine right now. Very strong. “

This is such a “tribute” to their faith, he said. “And I admire them, and we will do everything we can to help them. It’s a mess. It’s getting worse, I’m afraid. And what President Putin’s endgame is, I do not know. But I think We just have to pray that God can change his heart, “he added.

“And I would recommend people to pray for Putin. I do not want to be misunderstood [on this point]. I want people to pray that God would change his heart. And turn his heart, and that he would see the sin he is involved in. That he would repent and turn from it. And if we pray, it can happen. “

He also noted the great danger facing Ukrainians – dangers that can not be underestimated. For example, he said, “four of them [Ukrainian] people who had distributed food through Samaritan’s Purse were killed recently. These people are trying to help their own citizens, their own people, “he said.

“People live in the shadow of death,” he said. Yet – they have the feeling that God is with them.

Pastor Graham has written to Vladimir Putin and to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asking for a ceasefire from 15-24. April.

This period includes the 10 days of Holy Easter throughout the world, he noted.

Graham added to Fox News Digital: “We need to repent and turn from our sins. And maybe God will hear us from heaven … Pray for yourself. Just examine your heart. And if something is not right in your life, then admit it to God and turn away from it. “

We tend to look at other people and what they do, he said – “but we have to look at ourselves.”
