Chris Rock was not the only comedian to be attacked for a joke at the Oscars in 2022. While the result of his joke was a slap from actor Will Smith on live television, Amy Schumer received several threats on social media for a joke she made about actress Kirsten Dunst.
In an interview d Howard Stern Show, Schumer revealed that she received many death threats from viewers after her performance at the Oscars. The jokes were so serious that they caught the attention of the US intelligence service. Keep reading to find out more about the experience.
Kirsten Dunst was on the joke
As part of her performance at the Oscars in 2022, Schumer made a joke in which she pretended not to know Kirsten Dunst. She then referred to her as a “seat filler” and asked her to leave her seat in front of Jesse Plemons, her husband.
Audiences laughed since Dunst and Plemons were nominated for Oscars for their roles in the film “The Power of the Dog” from 2021. During the performance, Schumer turned to Plemons and said, “Jesse, I loved you in ‘Power of the Dog’ ‘. ”
Plemons replied, “You know it was my wife, Amy.” Schumer then replied, “Are you married to that seat filler?” The comedian later revealed that the couple was involved in the entire act. “I did a little bit with Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons, who were completely orchestrated. We spoke in advance, ”Schumer told Stern in the interview. “We all figured it out.”
Schumer explained that she talked to everyone she planned to make jokes about at the 94th Academy Awards to make sure they were fine with it. “I’ve been burned too many times and I did not want the camera to cut to someone who looked sad,” she said.
Amy Schumer received death threats
After the Oscars ended, there were many mixed reactions to the jokes, and Schumer received several threats because of the joke. She explained that some viewers confused the joke with a real one and thought she was actually making fun of Dunst. Fans got angry at her for “not respecting Kirsten Dunst like that” and started sending her death threats.
Ok, but Kirsten Dunst should have given Amy Schumer a slap in the face … Chris Rock is not the only one who deserved a bitch slap.

Several Twitter users also called for Schumer to be “beaten” over the joke. One tweeted: “Okay, but Kirsten Dunst should have beaten Amy Schumer by then … Chris rock is not the only one who deserved ab-ch slap.”
Another tweet read: “Amy Schumer calls Kirsten Dunst a filler because it’s always the poorest of Russians who think they can make fun of perfect girls.”
I got death threats, “Schumer said. She also said the Secret Service reached out to her and she was confused.” I say, “Oh, I think you have the wrong number. It’s Amy, not Will. You must be wrong … “” No, you’re getting death threats. ” Okay. “” Not that I want Will to have death threats, “she joked.
Secret Service reached out
Schumer noted that the threats were so troubling that the Secret Service had to reach out to confirm she was okay. “The Secret Service reached out to me. [The threats] were so bad that the Secret Service reached out to me about it, Schumer said. She then blamed it all on gender bias, “Misogyny is incredible.”
Schumer also revealed that Dunst was very concerned when she heard about the threats. She also tried to control the situation by telling fans that she knew about the joke in advance. The Secret Service was not the security agency that reached out to Schumer to offer assistance.
The Los Angeles Police Department also expressed concern by contacting Schumer. “The Secret Service, LAPD because [the threats] were so serious and so many. And they called me and they said, ‘Did you make fun of Kristen Dunst at the Oscars,’ she said.
The Oscars traumatized her
Aside from Schumer’s controversial jokes, fans also criticized her for claiming to be “traumatized” and “triggered” after comedian colleague Chris Rock was beaten by Will Smith on the Oscar stage in 2022. She said this in a now-deleted post on Instagram.
Schumer said, “Still triggered and traumatized.” She continued, “I love my friend [Chris Rock] and think he handled it like a professional. He stayed up there and gave an Oscar to his friend [Questlove]and it was all so disturbing. ”
She added: “So much pain in [Will Smith] yet I am still in shock and stunned and sad. I am proud of myself and my co-hosts. But yes. Waiting for that sickening feeling to disappear from what we were all witnessing. “
In response to the setback, Schumer noted that she was shocked that people mocked her for saying she was triggered. She continued, “I do not think it was traumatic for me. I think it was traumatic for all of us.”
